Girl Crush: Scarlett Johansson

My younger brother and I have a lot in common: we’re both pretty nerdy, we have similar facial features (round face, flat nose), and we both harbor feelings for a certain Black Widow — a.k.a. Scarlett Johansson. My brother, who first developed a celeb crush on Scarlett as the ass-kicking assassin in Iron Man 2, recently rekindled his feelings after seeing her reprise the role of Black Widow in this summer’s The Avengers. I started harboring a massive girl crush on her when I first heard her raspy voice in The Perfect Score (her first time co-starring with Chris Evans, a.k.a. Captain America, a.k.a. hot Ivy League guy in The Nanny Diaries) on my 14th birthday. Then I felt an even deeper connection to her once I found out we were boob twins; nothing builds female camaraderie more than sharing a bra size. But what makes me love her even more? Future Must-Haves: Couture Jewelry; Victor Velyan 24k Gold & Silver Ring w/ Diamonds

My friends make fun of me and call me “gaudy,” but I can’t help out: I love love love statement jewelry — especially large cocktail rings! Now, as a fashionista-on-a-budget, my statement baubles usually come from fast-fashion retailers like Forever 21, H&M, even Target — where the prices range from $3-$7 and the pieces still pack a punch. This beauty from Victor Velyan is exactly what I look for in a statement ring: intricate details that make it one-of-a-kind and a large gemstone that would cause some bruises if I were to wear the ring in a fight. What do you think? Do you think this is an investment piece — or should I stick to the F21 jewelry section?

Happy May Day! :: Retro Bathing Suits

I haven’t posted anything in a while — sorry, folks! But, anyways, happy May Day! And, in celebration of the new month and the warm weather that has finally arrived in the Bay Area, I’d like to post a quick homage to retro bathing suits! As a super curvy girl who loathes tankinis, retro bathing suits are a dream come true — especially since they’re everywhere this season! ModCloth consistently offers a plethora of retro-inspired bikinis — all high-waisted with cute prints, all that Zooey Deschanel would wear with pride. Urban Outfitters also sells a slightly less expensive high-waisted bikini with ruching (extremely flattering!). I have yet to find one that I’d like to commit to… Any ideas? Send me some links ’cause I’m on the hunt for something cute and oh-so-vintage-chic!
